Carlesa Jordan Sixth Grade, Ranson Middle
School On Thursday, September 22,
Carlesa was a witness to a crime in her
neighborhood. While waiting at the school bus stop
that morning, Carlesa observed someone fire a gun at
several fellow students from her school. Upon
arriving at the school, Carlesa immediately went to
the front office and reported the shooting to the
school staff. Of the more than twenty other
students on the bus, Carlessa was the only one that
reported what she witnessed. Although Carlesa did
not see the shooter, she recognized the students
that were fired upon. Fortunately, none of
Carlesa’s classmates were injured by the gun fire.
Since Carlesa was able to identify the victims, the
school administration was able to account for their
absence, and the police were able to locate them and
offer the appropriate emergency services. Despite
several other witnesses, Carlesa was the only one
who had the spirit and resolution to stand up for
what was right. Her actions led to a successful
resolution of this incident. Her bravery is an
outstanding example of leadership and citizenship. |
