Shamaria Quinn K
Idlewild Elementary
Shamaria was at home with her grandmother. Her grandmother fell
to the floor unconscious and Shamaria knew to call 911 for help.
Shamaria knew to stay calm and to answer all the emergency
operators’ questions.
Courtney White K Hawk Ridge Elementary
This past November, Courtney’s mother fell to the floor and
possibly had a seizure. Courtney dialed 911 for help. When the
emergency personnel arrived, Courtney was standing with her mom
making sure she was safe. Courtney was also able to give
pertinent information to the emergency personnel.
Alexis Helms 1st Grade Lansdowne Elementary
Alexis witnessed older boys playing with a gun on the back of
the school bus. Alexis knew the right thing to do was to tell
the assistant principal upon her arrival at school. The “plastic
toy gun” was confiscated by school personnel. Alexis was the
only student on the bus that showed responsibility to others by
reporting what could have been a dangerous weapon.
Devin
Lynch 3rd Grade Olde Providence Elementary
Devin is an amazing young man who has worked hard to form teams
and raise money for Multiple Sclerosis. When Devin was a 1st
grader he formed a team of 30 walkers, he was able to receive
sponsorship from a local restaurant, and his team raised over
$10,700. Devin has attended two National Sclerosis conferences,
this past October he was recognized as the youngest team captain
during the Dallas Texas conference. Devin plans to work even
harder in 2008 to raise money for research and find a cure for
Multiple Sclerosis. Devin demonstrates respect, responsibility
and caring beyond his young years.
Dulce Alonzo 4th Grade
Albemarle Road Elementary
Dulce has been bravely dealing with his mothers’ battle with
cancer for the last 3 years. She is an only child and has taken
on some very grown up roles to help out at home with her father.
Dulce has maintained a positive attitude, good grades and has
graduated from the ESL classroom because of her high performance
learning English. Dulce has demonstrated courage and
perseverance during a difficult time.
Aliyah Carelock
5th Grade Billingsville Elementary
Aliyah decided to turn in a student who stole and iPod from
another student. She knew honesty was very important and was not
afraid to stand up in front of her peers and do the right thing.
After Aliyah made a choice to do the right thing many of her
peers followed through also demonstrating her leadership
abilities.
Ty’Asiha Rann 5th Grade J. W. Grier
Academy
Ty’Asiha noticed that two kindergarten students were on the
wrong bus. She checked their bus tags and escorted them to the
correct bus. Ty’Asiha could have ignored the situation, her
actions demonstrated maturity and caring. She saved school
personnel and the children’s parents a great deal of worry.
James
Warren Jr. 5th Grade Winterfield Elementary
During lunch one of James classmates began to choke on her
sandwich and was unable to breathe. James ran quickly to his
classmate and began hitting her on her back, hoping to dislodge
the food. James was successful and his classmate was able to
breathe again. James quick actions and knowledge of first aid
saved his classmate from a possible deadly situation. James is a
role model for other students
Antony Patrick Neale 7th Grade Northeast Middle
Antony demonstrated honest and integrity when he found $100.00
at school. Antony knew it would be wrong to keep the money. He
found the principal, Mr. Switzer, and immediately gave the money
to him.
Jennifer Parker 7th Grade J.M. Alexander Middle
During the first quarter a new student arrived in Jenna’s class.
The new student became the target for several students. He was
picked on, called various derogatory names and had his lunch
stolen. Jenna has made great efforts to befriend this student
and brings him extra food from home. Jenna demonstrates justness
and true friendship with her classmate.
Devante Teal
8th Grade James Martin Middle
Devante found what he first believed to be an ink pen on his
school bus. Devante discovered the “pen” became a blade when he
pushed down on the eraser. Devante gave the “pen” to the School
Resource Officer, knowing this was the right thing to do and to
prevent someone from being injured. He demonstrated character
and honesty in his actions.
Courtney Boles 10th Grade Independence High
Courtney found a wallet with $80.00. Nobody was around and
Courtney could have easily kept the money. She chose to
demonstrate honesty and respect for the individual that lost the
wallet. Courtney turned the lost wallet into school personnel.
