Elexus is a 15-year-old ninth grader at Midwood High. She noticed that a male classmate was hurting himself by cutting his arms. Elexus did the right thing when she told the principal about it, because she did not want the young man to hurt himself anymore.

Laloree Breeden
School of International Business and Communication Studies at Olympic

Laloree is an honor student, on the A-B honor roll, a varsity cheerleader and is a first lieutenant in the JROTC program at Olympic. She is 17 years old and was nominated for the “Do the Right Thing” award by a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officer. The officer says Laloree has provided vital assistance to the police with two different investigations, one of which led to an arrest. Laloree stepped up and showed courage and strength when she made the decision to help the police and protect the public.

Logan Callahan
Mountain Island Elementary School

Logan is a nine-year-old fourth grader at Mountain Island Elementary. He started a team for the Susan G. Komen Race For the Cure, which raises money to fight breast cancer. The team, named “FROG” in honor of his cousin, completed the one-mile Fun Run/Walk and raised more than $300 for the organization. Logan showed his determination because he completed the event despite being sick himself: he had appendicitis and had surgery just a week after the walk.

SaVion Galloway
Morehead Elementary School

SaVion is nine years old and in the fourth grade at Morehead Elementary. When a classmate returned to school from a serious injury, SaVion stepped up to help. The other student was in a wheelchair and needed help getting around the school and the classroom, as well as gathering materials throughout the day. SaVion recognized how frustrating this may be for the student and did the right thing by helping make his return to school a little easier.

Tangela Johnson
Joseph W. Grier Academy

Tangela is a little girl with a big heart. She is 10 years old and in the fifth grade at Joseph W. Grier Academy. She is part of Right Moves for Youth, the Cardinal Singers, and is a cheerleader. Tangela lives next door to a third-grade student who uses an automated wheelchair. The student is learning to walk and works very hard at it. Tangela encourages her to do her best and helps her take practice steps when they are playing. Tangela also does the right thing by defending the student when other kids tease her about her difficulties.

Tre'vion Kittles
Mint Hill Middle School

Trevion is a 13-year-old seventh grader at Mint Hill Middle and has chosen to make the right choices all his life. His mother is a disabled veteran and a single parent who works hard to provide Trevion with everything he needs. Even when things are tough, he has a great attitude. Trevion’s older brother made some bad decisions and got involved in gangs, drugs, alcohol and fighting. He is now incarcerated, but through it all, Trevion has been strong and done the right thing. He never chose the street life, but instead goes to school every day and attends a year-long theatre class at Children’s Theatre of Charlotte.

Photo coming soon Lily Kyei
Ridge Road Middle School

Lily is an 11-year-old sixth-grade student at Ridge Road Middle. She was in class and noticed a classmate had a knife in her pocket. Lily did the right thing by telling the teacher what she saw. Caché did the right thing by choosing to help another student without being asked

Reggie Pettus
Morgan School

Reggie is a 13-year-old seventh grader at Morgan School. A Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officer nominated Reggie for this award because he did the right thing. While riding the bus home, Reggie saw a strip of tape covering what looked like a cut in the fabric in the back of the bus seat in front of him. Reggie pulled on the tape and a folding knife came out of the seat and fell on the floor. He immediately told the bus monitor about the knife, who then gave it to the school resource officer. Although Reggie found the knife by accident, his decision to turn it in to an adult, instead of keeping it, showed strong character.
